Ukrainian retailers and restaurants boasted strong sales in the first quarter, posting gains of 28 percent year-on-year (adjusted for inflation) to 49.8 billion hryvnias, according to State Statistics Committee.
The Kirovohrad region showed the most significant growth, climbing 35.9 percent and reaching a turnover of 790.7 million hryvnias. The Luhansk region took second place with 35.3 percent growth and a turnover of 1.52 billion hryvnias. The Ivano-Frankivsk region rounded out the top three with growth of 34.9 percent and a turnover of 934.5 million hryvnias.
In 2007, sales for retailers and restaurants grew 29.3 percent year-on-year (adjusted for inflation) to 175.12 billion hryvnias.
In 2007, the most significant growth was observed in Sevastopol (up 48.6 percent, turnover of 1.8 billion hryvnias), Chernivtsi region (up 41.4 percent, 2.64 billion hryvnias), and Mykolayiv region (up 40.8 percent, 3.72 billion hryvnias).
