In the first four months of 2008, Ilyich Steel Mill of Mariupol (Ilyich MMK) produced 1.83 million tons of rolled steel, showing a 40,000 ton, or 2.1 percent decline year on year. The Ministry of Industrial Policy reported the figures.
Between January and April, Ilyich MMK smelted 2.38 million tons of steel, which was 21,000 tons or 1.1 percent less than during the same period of 2007. Cast iron production amounted to 1.86 million tons, falling 21,000 tons or 1.1 percent from the year before.
Sintered ore production climbed by 653,000 tons, or 16.8 percent year on year, reaching 4.54 million tons. Steel pipe production increased 1,600 tons, or 4.1 percent yoy, to 39,700 tons.

In 2007, the company produced 5.47 million tons of finished steel (1.6 percent over 2006), 6.95 million tons of steel (0.4 percent below 2006), 5.43 million tons of cast iron (a 100 percent up year-on-year), 12.88 million tons of sintered ore (14.3 percent above 2006), and 127,200 tons of steel pipes (a 14.4 percent increase year on year).
